Franklin County turns 200 in 2008! Celebrate the county Bicentennial all year long with official and non-official Bicentennial events.

February 9, 2008 — 1:00pm Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Parade

The Franklin County Bicentennial Commission is the official sponsor of the Winter Carnival Parade. Tim Burpoe, Franklin County Legislator and member of the Bicentennial Commission, is Grand Marshal.

March 11, 2008 — Founder's Day Ceremony, Franklin County Courthouse, Malone

Ceremony and reception commemorating 200 years since the creation of Franklin County.

June 14, 2008 — 10am-10pm Bicentennial Day Event, Franklin County Fairgrounds, Malone

9:30am Puppetry Workshop by Open Hand Theater, sponsored by Foothills Art Society (Arsenal Green)
10:00am - 9:30pm Civil War and War of 1812 Re-enactors' camps open to public (Fairgrounds)
10:00am Memorial Butterfly Release, Hospice of the North Country (Arsenal Green)
10:00am Tour of Webster St. Cemetery — DAR (Webster St. Cemetery)
10:00am & 12:30pm History Tours of First Congregational Church (incl. Underground Railroad tunnel)
11:00am Parade — Main Street. County-wide participation; town floats; Antique cars; Veterans' groups; marching bands; civic groups; scout groups; historic groups; giant birthday cake float. Pearl St. to Fairgrounds.
*1:00pm Bicentennial Ceremony — (main stage). County dignitaries, awards, committee member recognition, historical sketchets, etc.

12:00pm - 4:00pm Commemorative Cancellation by U. S. Postal Service.
12:30pm - 5:00pm Craft Demonstrations (spinning, sheep-shearing, butter-making, etc.)
12:30pm - 7:00pm Booths open (Food vendors, Historical Groups, Community/Civic Groups, Antique Vehicle display).
12:30pm - 8:00pm Local Entertainment acts (small stage) at fairgrounds (fiddlers, cloggers, local bands, high school music groups, etc).
2:00pm - 6:00pm Children's Activities — at fairgrounds (sack races, hoop races, circle baseball, story time, stilts, marbles, etc).
2:00pm Skirmish/Muster — Civil War re-enactor event.
2:30pm All That Jazz dance performance (main stage).
4:00pm Flag Day Ceremony (main stage).
5:30pm Tug of War Competition.
8:00pm 1964 The Tribute Concert (main stage).
9:30pm Closing Ceremonies & Fireworks (main stage)

June 15, 2008 — Town of Bombay Celebration of its 175th Anniversary

July 12, 2008 10:00am — Tupper Lake Woodsmen's Days Parade

The Franklin County Bicentennial Commission is the official sponsor of the Woodsmen's Days Parade. The theme of the parade is “Celebrating 200 Years in Franklin County.”

July 26, 2008 — Moira Heritage Day

Annual event celebrating the history of the Town of Moira. Entertainment Parade, displays, exhibits, food, entertainment (includes the Oldtimers Band) and camaraderie until 5pm

July 19-20, 2008 1pm-5pm — Brighton History Day

August 3, 2008 — Dickinson Bicentennial Celebration

The Town of Dickinson also celebrates 200 years in 2008! Dickinson was officially created in 1808 (although established in 1809) and will celebrate with a parade, historical displays and a chicken BBQ. Contact Historian Jean Jesmer at: (518) 529-7350.

September 12, 2008 — NYS Appellate Division in Franklin County

The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals will be in session in Franklin County on Sept. 12 in honor or our bicentennial year.
